The strength of our future lies in our past
I have learned to make a picture post just for this occasion.

Eurovision Finals are this Saturday and once again my cousin will be hosting a party to view the semi-finals and finals. Since he is much too busy to post a general invitation, because his boyfriendboss has him compiling statistics on addiction in homeless mutant youth, I am posting for him.

I actually have no idea what he is compiling statistics in, I only have a series of text messages regarding normal distribution that are unsuitable for printing on a journal system read by underage teenagers, so I made up a topic.

The party is semi catered, but if any of you like, please feel free to bring a selection of your finest finger foods and non-alcoholic beverages.

However, for those of you of age:

My prediction for this year's Eurovision: Ireland will win, but Bulgaria will catch the Snitch.

(yes, I've been waiting a year to make that joke, shut up)

This icon is captioned "I cannot even look at you" which is what I want to say to you right now.

What is Eurovision and why are all these people dressed like Elton John?

After a thousand or so years of various wars, the entirety of Europe decided to put their weapons aside and do battle with Russian grandmothers, gay Romanian vampires (well, sadly, Cezar is not gay, more is the pity, but I imagine that his vampiric stage counterpart could be), Turks in a strange stage boat, Ukrainian glitter robots, and vaguely eroticized Moldovan saxophonists.

The strangest thing is that it appears to have worked. Well, except for Putin, but perhaps he simply harbors a deep desire to be Russia's Eurovision entry.

If you want boring things like facts, Eurovision is an annual music contest most famous for launching ABBA's career.

I have had to shut my office door to contain my giggles. You are my favourite cousin.
7th-May-2014 07:40 pm (UTC)
Man, Europe's got it all figured out, don't they?

Minus that ABBA thing.

Miss Eurovision? NEVER.

I need a proper outfit for this though!!!

The best thing is that no matter what you wear, I am assured that either someone on stage will manage to out do your unique fashion statement, or copy your outfit, because this is Eurovision.

I finally enabled my app for picture descriptions and you posted this.

I think you broke the app.

Jean-Phillipe's description of Eurovision captures a very accurate description most of the pictures, if that helps?

That's very true. Scarily accurate, actually.

You know, not being in Attilan means that I get to miss the Princess' annual Eurovision celebration. I had not considered this.

Attilan will not have an entry this year.

Is missing Crystal's party a good or bad thing? Does it mean you can avoid historical productions of ABBA?

"Attilan will not have an entry this year." - this is every year, is it not?
7th-May-2014 04:29 pm (UTC)
"Attilan will not have an entry this year." Common opinion varies on why.

Can you promise that your cousin's party will have no historical productions of ABBA? Because Crystal was a firm believer in making everyone sing along (... except the King, of course).

There is no ABBA at my cousin's parties. I cannot say for certain until he climbs out of his pile of statistics (the profanity laden text messages continue into this morning) but I believe his opinion of ABBA involves electricity and destroying stereo equipment.

There will be high-quality wine and a very good selection of finger foods and Europe's finest musicians. redacted because I have just seen my country's entry.

You have just made this sound like paradise.

You may change your mind when you see France's entry into the contest. I am obliged to support my home country but sometimes I wonder why.
